What We Do

“Central to everything we do is our commitment to social mobility and our belief that this should be a collective responsibility.”

Founded in Queen’s Park in 2013, the Promise Foundation deploys the resources of the local community to provide disadvantaged 13-18 year olds with a one-to-one mentoring relationship that helps unlock their unique potential.

The charity was born from, and inspired by, a mentoring relationship that transformed the life of an individual, who later went on to graduate top of her year at Cambridge University. Our aim is to provide support to the young people at a time in their lives when the decisions they take have long-term effects on their future. Central to everything we do is our commitment to social mobility and our belief that this should be a collective responsibility.

We aim to tackle educational disadvantage by providing mentoring, advice, and skills training. Our core focus is on the group we term the ‘silent middles’ (by this we are referring to those young people who make up the bulk of the comprehensive educational system – those who are not identified as ‘Gifted and Talented’ nor displaying Special Educational Needs and therefore have no access to specific public funding or extra support).

Improved self-esteem and confidence

We promote the student’s potential, offering them support and broadening their horizons. The underlying vision is to secure improved self-esteem and confidence, to ‘taste’ professional experiences which might not normally be available, and social mobility as a prevention of poverty.
